1828 Matron Head Cent, Large Narrow Date XF - details. Rather appealing!
This coin has a beautiful rich baker's chocolate brown tone with loads of personality! I researched countless certified past auction buys on the Heritage website and give it a full EF-forty without reservation - DETAILS, that is. The stars are bold and separated, the ribbon on the wreath is very well defined. Definition in the hair line and curls are pleasing. In hand, it
feels
like an XF too! Indeed, to the naked eye this coin does have very strong appeal, in spite of its condition issues.
There is environmental damage, mostly to the obverse. Unaffected areas are nice and smooth. There are no scratches, hits, or rim nicks. No signs of harsh, improper cleaning. (There is a darker spot on the reverse at 2:00 that may look like rim damage, but the rim is fully intact on both sides.) She's very beautiful in her own way!
